SUBJECT:  Peterson Air & Space Museum Volunteers Staff Meeting, 31 Aug 07

GRAY called the meeting to order at 0900 hours in the Old City Hangar.

 

A. OLD BUSINESS: 

 

  1. FINANCIAL REPORT:

- Financial status as of 31 July 07 was presented to and accepted by the staff.  Statement is attached. (WEAVER-INFO)

Cash Available:  $24,116.17                                 

CY 07 Income:  $12,120.85

CY 07 Expenditures: 13,179.39

             

2. CURATOR’S UPDATE (WHALEN):

 

EQUIPMENT TURN-IN:

            - No change.

           

PK SHROUD

-  Awaiting pickup by the 302nd AW.

 

PAVE PAWS TRAINER:

-  No change.

 

BROADMOOR HANGAR:

            - Artifacts and Research Library items relocated from the Ops Building.

            - Administrative Offices relocated from Ops Building.

            - New shelving purchased ($1,200) by the Foundation.

            - Need to update inventory roster with new location of each artifact.

            - Need to separate NMAF and PA&SM artifacts both in storage and inventory listing.

            - Windows covered by cloth drapes-KUDOs Jane NEWMAN.

            - KUDOs McKINNEY and CREW for all their efforts.

 

            NMAF DIRECTOR VISIT:

            - M/Gen Charles D. METCALF toured (one and one half hours) the Museum

23 Aug 07.

            - Pleased with the new storage facilities (Broadmoor Hangar) and general appearance of the facilities,

            - AFSPC/HO citied the Museum as the “show place of the Command.”

            - The Museum will undergo the National Museum of the AF’s certification evaluation sometime in early 2008.

 

            GOLF CART:

            - 21 SW has funded the purchase of Golf Carryall Cart.

            - Service agreement is included.

            - Cart will be used to transport equipment to plane sites for maintenance activities and to meet handicap visitor’s support.

            - Delivery is expected within two to three weeks.

 

            21st SPACE WING COMMANDER’S VISITOR:

            - Col Raymond conducted a walkthrough of the facilities 30 Aug 07.

            - Museum will host Wing’s monthly promotion ceremony.

            - No problems citied. KUDOs to all for the preparation.

 

            F-104 PAINTING:

            - Aircraft has been completely repainted.

            - Museum received personal interest and funding support from NORAD/CC.

 

            P-40 PAINTING:

            - Corrective painting of the colors will start next week.

            - Museum received personal interest and funding support from NORAD/CC.

 

            F4C ACCIDENT:

            - On 21 Aug 07 a vehicle from the Base Grounds Contractor struck the aircraft’s left horizontal stabilizer.

            - With the assistance of the 302AW, a temporary patch is in place.

            - Discussions with the NMAF resulted in the decision to replace the stabilizer rather than repair the damage.

            - Working details to find replacement parts.

 

            COMPUTER PURCHASE:

            - Curator requested Foundation funding support for two new PCs to support Artifacts Inventory and Library Research activities.

            - GRAY and WHALEN will work out the details.

 

            BUSY SEPTEMBER:

            -Very busy month ahead.

            - Will need an all hands effort.

            - Details to follow.

 

            VOLUNTEER ROSTER:

            - Need to update and bring into compliance with Privacy Act Requirements

 

            KUDOs TO ALL:

            -There is so many people to thank I can’t begin to do so.

            -This has been a very busy two months with many activities, many visitors, and numerous DVs.

            - We received Many, Many accolades…thank you all!

 

 3. ARTIFACTS, ACCESSIONS & NEWLETTER (McKINNEY):

-  Forty-eight items accessed 2007.

-  Inputs for October Newsletter due NLT 15 Sept 07.

  4. VOLUNTEER SUPPORT (WEAVER):

 5. RAMP RATS (KOVACH):

            - Further information-See Curator’s Update F-4C.

            - Cleaning and reorganizing Ops Building

            - Moved Artifacts to the Broadmoor Hangar.

                         

 6.  WEBSITE (SMALLEY):

            -  Hits to date: 80,700 plus.

            -  Recently added F-104 restoration pictures, Terminal Building Exhibits, numerous Adopt an Airplane cleaning and waxing activities.

            -  Web Site contains 1556 pages with 2,554 files.

            -  NASH citied the value of the web site in obtaining information on the history of Peterson AFB.  KUDOs SMALLEY

 

 7. BLACK GANG (GRAY):

            -- Moving items from the Ops Building to the Broadmoor Hangar completed.

             - Cleaning and reorganizing Ops Building.

 

 8. DOCENT PROGRAM (GRIER):

            - Further information- See Curator’s Update.

            - Annual training for DOCENTs completed in August.

            - Established a recall roster.

            - KUDOs Jimmy BOWDEN for 1125 volunteer hours during the past twelve months.

 

9. RESEARCH LIBRARY (J.NEWMAN):

            - Sorting of materials underway.

            - Software ordered.

                       

  B. NEW BUSINESS:

 

 1. MODEL UPDATE (GALBREATH):

            -Working on the THOR Missile, MGS, and DISCOVER capsule.

            -Related the now unclassified history of the DISCOVER capsule to include John CAWOOD’s involvement.

 

 

2. BULLET & EAGLEROCK MODEL (CAWOOD):

            - Working area for model construction has been established in the Operations Building.

            - Construction is well underway.

            -  Once complete, both models will be displayed in the Terminal Building

                        --Social function is being planned-details to follow.

 

3. F-15 TANK (KOVACH):

            - Questioned the future use of the F-15 external tank stored behind the City Hangar.

 

4.  PR ACTIVITIES:

            -  Eight page article with 20 pictures appeared in the P-47 Alumni Association’s “Juggernaut News” Spring 2007 news publication.

            - KUDOs ERNIE NEWMAN, MIKE McCORKLE and JEFF NASH.

 

5.  OLYMPIC TRAINING CENTER (OTC) TOUR:

            - Dick BURNS offered to arrange a tour the OTC during October 07.

            - WEAVER will send out E-mail to determine who and how many are interested.

 

6.  SICKNESS & HEALTH:

            -  Welcome back Tony ROMAN!

            - Charlie McCARTHY is doing well.

            - Ralph SPRAKER should be back next week.

 

7.  INTERNET CONNECTION:

            - Jim SWALLEY working on requirements and costs to establish Internet Connection for the Foundation.

 

8. NEW STAFF MEMBER:

            -TSGT USAFR Tom DISHION introduced to the group.

            - Welcome aboard and thank you for all you already have accomplished.
